YouTube on Thursday launched YouTube Rewind 2016 – a reflection of videos that captured attention of Kenyans from January to December 2016.
YouTube Rewind is an annual collection of videos produced, created, and uploaded on YouTube and brings together the biggest music, trends, memes, and characters from the past twelve months featuring today’s biggest YouTube stars and mainstream personalities.
From international stars and educational videos to thrilling moments from traditional media and big names, this year’s list of top trending videos represents the amazing variety of creativity brought to YouTube each day.
YouTube Rewind 2016 reveals that ‘Salome’ by Diamond Platnumz featuring Rayvanny is the top music video of the year in Kenya.
‘Work’ by American pop star Rihanna featuring Drake is second while Tanzania’s Harmonize and Diamond Platnumz emerged third with their hit single ‘bado’. The top three songs were released in 2016.
The fourth top music video in Kenya in 2016 is ‘Unconditionally Bae’ by Kenya afro-pop band Sauti Sol, featuring Tanzania’s Ali Kiba while ‘Work from Home’ by American all-girl music group Fifth Harmony is fifth followed by ‘This Is What You Came For’ by UK-based DJ Calvin Harris and Rihanna; ‘Kwetu’ by Tanzania’s Rayvanny; ‘Cheap Thrills’ by Sia featuring Jamaican artist Sean Paul; ‘Pillowtalk’ by Zayn and ‘Ain’t Your Mama’
In the non-music category, a video of students of Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High school doing the ‘Bamba Mbaya’ dance was the most watched video in Kenya.
