NASA leader Raila Odinga. [Photo: bbc.com]Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji has hit out at NASA leader Raila Odinga for opposing October 17 as the date set for repeat presidential election.
The Jubilee senator says that Raila has no power to influence the election date and that he should shut up.
Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Tuesday, Haji said that Jubilee will not be intimidated by NASA’s demands.
He asked the former Prime Minister (PM to respect the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The senator claimed that Raila wants to intimidate the Wafula Chebukati led commission to execute its mandate in his favor.
“Raila Odinga should know that he has no powers to influence the election date and he should accept the guidelines being issued by the IEBC in regard dot the repeat election,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
Haji said that Raila is not interested in the repeat election.
Senator Haji claimed that the former PM wants to create a constitutional crisis in the country for his benefit.
“We all know that Raila’s is not interested in the election, want he wants is a ‘Nusu Mkate’ government,” he said.
Haji asked Kenyans not to panic, saying that the country will hold repeat election as planned.
The Jubilee senator asked Raila to brace up for another defeat. He stated that former Prime Minister will be forced to retire if he does not do so willfully.
Raila has opposed the date set by IEBC for repeat election. The former PM says that he was not consulted before the new date was arrived at.
Raila is proposing that the fresh election is held on 24 or 31 October.
