Donkey owners in Zambezi, Kiambu County have been warned against using highways as they pose a threat to motorists and cause congestion. Speaking from her office on Friday, the traffic base commander in the area, Inspector Elizabeth Wakuloba said that donkey owners in the area have been causing traffic congestion and also accidents on highways in the area.
She said that this is an offence and anyone found will be charged accordingly. The owners use the donkeys to transport water to different area within the county.
Inspector Wakuloba stated that donkey owners were also posing a threat to the donkeys by walking them on the highways.
The traffic commander said that over six cases had been reported in the recent past of accidents that were caused by donkey owners using highways.
She urged the donkey owners to use pavements.
“Donkey owners in Zambezi should avoid using highways. This is a serious crime and whoever will be arrested will face the wrath of the law. Make use of the pavements that are at your disposal,” she said.
