There was drama at at Mwamanga Primary School polling station in Diani after Senatorial aspirant Nicholas Zani was beaten and arrested by police officers during the Orange Democratic Movement nominations on Saturday evening, reports Standard.
Nominations ended prematurely following the cancellation of tallies for Msambweni constituency over cases of irregularities in the exercise.
The party only released the results for the parliamentary and MCA primaries after the outcome of the other posts were declared provisional following the cancellation.
The aspirant is said to have gone to the polling station to find out why his agent had been barred from witnessing the tallying of the votes before he was roughed up by the police leading to his arrest.
According to Zani, he feared that he will be rigged out of the polls forcing him to take an action.
"I refused to get out because I feared that I would be rigged out, as my agent had been blocked," he said. He also said that police officers had manhandled him during the incident.
"Police beat and man-handled me before throwing me into a police lorry for requesting to oversee my vote counted. It is a very sad day for Kwale people."
The aspirant called upon the national ODM elections board to probe the matter with immediate effect.
"Votes were burnt, which is against the party's laws. This means they were destroying the evidence of rigging me out," he said.
