Gor Mahia head coach Jose Fereira ‘Ze Maria’ has hailed his players terming them warriors after a hard fought 1-0 win over Nzoia Sugar on Sunday at Mumias Sports Complex.

Meddie Kagere scored the all-important goal in the first half to give his side the maximum points.

Speaking after the match, Ze Maria admitted that Nzoia's speed caused his side problems while hailing his charges for managing to contain the Bernard Mwalala coached side.

“It was a very tough match because they have a very good young team, they run a lot. Most of my players played against Chemelil on Wednesday so it was very tough maintaining the same level of performance for 90 minutes but what I saw today was a warriors' performance, my team fought for each ball and everything on the pitch,” Ferreira said.

“When a team wants to win the league sometimes they have to play like we did today, we showed great character. Pressure at Gor Mahia is normal because it's the biggest team in Kenya and we have to win for the fans, the media and ourselves. The pressure is always there if you are at Gor Mahia,” he said.

Gor Mahia are currently at the summit of the KPL log with 25 points.
