(Photo /sportpicha)Michael Madoya on Friday made history by bagging four first-place awards in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) awards gala. No player has ever made such an achievement in the local scene. The Zoo Kericho's Midfielder bagged the most prestigious award of them all- Most Valuable Player (MVP), New player of the year award, Midfielder of the year award and the fourth one, Fair Play Player of the Year award.Madoya who is playing in the Premier League for the first was interviewed by local sports news site soka.co.ke and said he was flattered to bag the award since Zoo was not sure if they would finish the season in the Premier League since The High Court had initially determined that promotion of Zoo and Nakumatt FC to KPL was an illegality in the first place.''We have been through a lot as a team. At some point, we were not even sure if 2017 would end with us still competing in the Premier League. These awards for me is the result of patience finally paying off. It is not only for me but as a club, these are the fruits of hard work,'' Madoya said as quoted by soka.co.ke.The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Awards that were conducted late year feted Madoya third in MVP, however, he was optimistic that KPL awards would fete him at something more positive.''There was stiff competition in one particular category- the MVP award because Kagere (Meddie) and Matasi (Patrick) have had fantastic seasons too. On the others, however, I had firm belief I would reign,'' said Madoya.Asked on whether he would leave the Kericho based club, which he has been a player for the last 8 years, his response was candid.''Many people ask me why I have never left the club and my answer is always the same. We have come a long way ever since I was offered an opportunity here. To see one man struggle to keep all of us comfortable is something I always try to pay back by giving my all in the field of play,'' he concluded.KPL awards are organized by league managers who use several parameters to rate a player. Together with SJAK, they are the two most prestigious awards.
