President Uhuru Kenyatta Tuesday morning welcomed South African President Jacob Zuma to State House, Nairobi, with an elaborate State reception complete with a 21-gun salute.
President Zuma, who is on a three-day State visit, arrived at State House shortly after 10am and was received by his host, President Kenyatta.
According to PSCU, the National Anthems of Kenya and South Africa were played followed by the Kenya Defence Forces firing 21 cannon shots.
The South African President then inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Kenya Airforce.
Other dignitaries who greeted President Zuma at the State House included Cabinet secretaries and service commanders led by the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Samson Mwathethe among others.
Thereafter the South African leader entered State House building and signed the Distinguished Visitors’ Book after which President Kenyatta invited him into his office for tete-a-tete.
The two Presidents will later lead their delegations in bilateral talks at which they will discuss issues of trade, security and immigration.
Other issues set to be discussed will be the candidature of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed for the post of chairperson of the African Union Commission.
Earlier President Zuma laid a wreath at the mausoleum of the First President of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
This is the first State visit by a South African President.
