Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has broken the silence over the poor state of affairs at hospitals in the county.
The Kiambu County Government has in recent weeks been on the spot over congestion and acute shortage of drugs in the county's public hospitals.
Despite the health department in the county receiving a budgetary allocation of Sh4 billion annually, patients at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital remain dissatisfied with the quality of services they are receiving at the facility.
Some of the patients are forced to share beds, which they say are too small to accommodate more than one person.
Waititu has however defended his administration, blaming the congestion witnessed in the county's hospitals on non-residents.
"In Kiambu, more than half of the patients we are treating are not from our county, they come from outside. That is why you are seeing on social media people wearing Maasai shukas. They are from Kajiado, that is the truth," said Waititu adding that the county hospitals were not "prepared" to handle the new patients.
Waititu also noted that Kiambu hospitals are strategically located, adding that this why non-residents seek medical services at the facilities.
"In Kiambu county, we are attending to 10, 000 patients every day, which is a big difference when compared to the normal daily patients, which is between 5,000 to 6,000 patients," he added.
