Uasin Gishu chairman of the Muslim Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Sheikh Abubakar Bini has told off a section of Muslim leaders in Eldoret town who recently disowned him.
Speaking in Eldoret on Tuesday, Bini said he is a duly elected chairman of the Uasin Gishu CIPK.
He was responding to claims by a group of Eldoret Muslim leaders led by Mohamed Hussein of Eldoret Jamia mosque and Muslim Association chairman Mohamed Kipkoskei who on Saturday termed Bini as a busybody who does not represent Muslim interests.
“I am the duly elected Uasin Gishu CIPK chair and the national chairman Abdala Ateka can attest to this," said Bini who termed claims that he does not represent the interests of Muslims as a total respect to him.
“I was also elected as the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) North Rift leader last year in Kitale. Those who claim they don’t know me were in Kitale for the elections but they were denied entry because they were not legal officials,” he added.
Sheikh Bini further wondered why he was allowed to contest for the national deputy SUPKEM religious leader post if he was not an official.
CIPK national chairman Abdala Ateka in a phone interview confirmed that Bini was duly elected and represents CIPK in Uasin Gishu.
