Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho hosted Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Najib Balala and officials from various government institutions such as the Kenya Tourism Board and the Kenya Wildlife Service.
During the Monday meeting at the governor's office, their discussions based on the planned development of Mama Ngina drive into a modern waterfront with a boardwalk and other recreation facilities.
"I’m glad to report that this collaboration between the national government and county government is at an advanced stage. A financial allocation has been made and ground breaking is set for early 2019," Joho revealed.

Also present during the meeting were governors Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta) and Dhadho Godhana (Tana River).

Earlier in the day, Joho participated in the launch of the new Coast Guard Service as part of the broader Blue Economy initiative in Liwatoni, Mombasa.
"Maritime security remains a key aspect of the Blue Economy especially with regards to regulatory enforcement of fisheries laws, enforcement of extractive regulations and marine protection. I look forward to more collaborative initiatives in the future."
The launch was in the sidelines of the 1st Jumuia Agri-Business and Blue Economy Investment Conference at the Pride Inn Paradise Resort in Shanzu.

The conference aimed at sensitising various stakeholders from the region on available opportunities in the Blue Economy Sector as well as preparing them for the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference to be held in Nairobi.
