The onset of rains in Garissa County has caused destruction in a number of places in the North Eastern Kenya county.

Hardest hit is Masalani Sub County which experienced the destruction of structures and a power outrage. 

The Masalani Sub County Hospital and a number of schools have been ravaged by the continued precipitation.

Rains in the county are consistent with predictions by the Meteorological Department which said that North Eastern would receive rains this week. 

Operations at te Masalani Sub County Hospital have been severely affected.

Residents have called on the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to help restore electricity.

Business that rely on electricity to run their operations are feeling the pinch. 

Different parts of the country continue to receive rains that have in some cases wrought destruction. 

Northern Kenya is no stranger to destruction wrought by severe rains.

Last year, destruction of property, displacement of people and deaths were reported in the region amid raging floods.

Power outrages were also reported in Mandera, Wajir and other parts of the region in 2018 as residents grappled with the destructive effects of prolonged precipitation.

The region is usually dry and hot but when rains come they result in destruction. 

Most of the communities in Garissa County lead a pastoralist life.
