A section of Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) has expressed dissatisfaction following the government's decision to maintain an earlier announced price of Sh2,300 for a 90-kilogram bag of maize.
In a tweet on the official State House handle, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the Cabinet had approved Sh2,300 as the price of maize this season.
The price had earlier been set by the Strategic Food Reserve (SFR) but was contested by farmers and leaders from maize growing areas mainly in the North Rift region.
Suggestions f the majority of the elected leaders and farmers was that in the worst scenario, the previous price of Sh3,200 is maintained.
However, the government seems to have stood its ground and with the Cabinet approval, the farmers' fate over maize price has been sealed.
Several Twitter users were not happy with the State House declarations.
Here is some of those who replied to the tweet;
It now remains to be seen what action the farmers and leaders would take keeping in mind that they had threatened to hold a mechanized demonstration to Statehouse should their plea on maize price be ignored.
