Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday revealed that Mt Kenya leaders who are backing Deputy President William Ruto are being harassed.
Waititu said ‘there is much pressure’ on those supporting the DP.
While speaking at the Kahawa Wendani church in Ruiru constituency where Ruto was attending a fundraising, the county boss openly told the DP that is was not easy being in his camp.
“There is pressure Mr Deputy President on those of us supporting you. Much pressure is being put on us and that is even why you saw our security being withdrawn, it is difficult,” Waititu said in this video posted by NTV.
He, however, assured the DP that they will stick with him because ‘that is what the mwananchi has told us’.
“But we will stay with you because that is the people want, Kiambu people are with you and no vote will be given by the DC or commissioner,” Waititu added.
There are talks within political circles that Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has been frustrating security detail for the DP as well as those MP in his political camp.
At one point, Kenya’s dailies reported that the two had clashed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as Ruto confronted the PS over the same.
Kibicho has, however, dismissed the reports saying he cannot dare involve himself in an exchange with the second in command.
