A first year student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) was on Thursday, February 7, 2019, stabbed to death at around 7pm in Juja.
Reports indicate that the female student was taking a walk with a friend near the Seagull Hotel before they were accosted by unknown thugs.
They were then ordered to surrender all their belongings including their mobile phones.
It is reported that the first year student was stabbed on the neck after she declined to surrender her belongings.
She was taken to the JKUAT health facility where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
"INSECURITY ALERT!!! One of our comrades @DiscoverJKUAT has been stabbed to death near Seagull...may the soul of our innocent fellow sister rest in peace. Please be safe as you walk around, it's not safe anymore," tweeted Aboki Hesbon, a student leader.
The Jomo Kenyatta Univerity Student Association (JKUSA) later announced that they would hold peaceful demonstrations in Juja today (Friday) to protest against the increased cases of murders.
"This is to inform you that we will be having a peaceful demonstration in Juja environs on Friday 8th of February 2019 as from 9am. This is due to a series of unexplained killings, the most recent one having occurred on 7th at Seagull Hotel at 7pm," read a letter that was sent to the Juja OCPD by the student leadership.
A similar incident was reported in May, 2018 where a male student died after he was also stabbed to death by thugs in Juja.
