Huruma Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Chomba has hit out at the County Government of Uasin Gishu for failing to allocate spaces for traders who were operating in the recently renovated Eldoret wholesale market.

Chomba claims there has been tribalism and discrimination in the process of allocating space at the market that has been closed for over a year.

“In 2017, governor Mandago told those traders from the wholesale market that if they don’t vote for him they will not go back to the wholesale market and as things are he is implementing the same,” said the MCA in Eldoret town, Sunday.

He insists that every trader who was in the wholesale market should be given space whether he voted for the governor or not.

“This wholesale market has brought bad politics which has separated people basing on their tribes and political affiliations which is not good for a peace-loving county,” Chomba noted.

The Jubilee MCA further called on Deputy President William Ruto to intervene and help address the matter for an amicable solution to be reached.

He noted that the DP has been doing good work of bringing tribed together hence should do the same in Eldoret town.

The market that initially accommodated over 2,000 traders was recently re-opened after renovations.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has in the past been quoted saying that all traders who were in the market would be allowed back on the condition that they clear pending arrears
