An old Kikuyu proverb says, 'ikuhuma gutiri muti itombaga' (a tired bird can perch on any tree).
The wider meaning of this old adage is that once anyone or anything is very fatigued, the options are very few.
Therefore, a wise person will know when they are about to reach this desperate level and do the necessary thing, take a rest.
Yes, you take a rest before all your energy is spent to a point that you can fall for anything or anyone.
In this very spirit, there are four Kikuyu radio presenters who apparently require a rest before they are so spent to an extent of desperation. We list them below.
1. Professor Ngugi Njoroge
He co-hosts the Inooro FM's nightly show 'Keera'. Njoroge is a favourite among many Kikuyu listeners especially the old folks who like his deep analysis on day-to-day politics.
However, the old professor with his vast wealth of knowledge cannot be on radio forever. There is a breed of other young professors who can perfectly fit into his shoes.
2. Evans Wanyoike
Wanyoike is among the veteran Kikuyu radio presenters who have been able to remain relevant for so long. Evans, as many call him, is most popular for his award-winning 'Book Club' show which is as old as Kameme FM itself, where he is a presenter.
Nevertheless, Evans may want to consider other roles in radio as he is still young. As you know, radio becomes boring if you have to keep on listening to the same voices a decade after another.
3. PM² (Penina Muthoni Mbugua)
In a previous article, we outlined the reasons as to why PM² should consider retirement as an option. Her poor ratings lately and accusations of being boring by a section of listeners should be enough cue to the veteran presenter.
4. Machang'i Man Solo
He is the comedian who co-hosts the Kameme FM drive show along PM². Machangi used to be the funniest comedian when he first ventured on radio but not anymore.
His comedy wits seem to have evaporated and today he is just a shadow of his former self. And because he is still young, he may opt to rebrand himself or simply retire. The dynamic nature of radio can be so brutal to those who fail to evolve with it!
