The authorities had identified a silver car used by terrorists to commit the DusitD2 attack which had a registration number KCN 340E whose model is Toyota Ractis.
The vehicle was at the scene of the attack and had explosives which were detonated by security agents.
On further investigation, the police detectives zeroed down on another car in Kitengela which is of the same model and make (Toyota Ractis) and have a similar registration number to the one found at the crime scene.
The noticeable difference was that the one found at the crime scene is silver in colour and had a graffiti painting of a skull bone as earlier reported by hivisasa while the one identified in Kitengela was light blue with no graffiti painting.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) records show the attackers could have probably used the registration number KCN 340 in a fraudulent manner in their silver car left in the crime scene on Tuesday, January 15.
According to NTSA records, the owner of the car with that registration number is Cynkim Investment Company Limited and the colour from the records is light blue, showing that the one identified in Kitengela is the legal owner of the registration number and was issued on Friday, October 13, 2017.
The detectives however continued with their investigation after sorting out the confusion.
