The confrontation is said to have transpired at the JKIA airport during President Uhuru's return to the country.

Speaking on K24, Gitau chastised the DP for publicly confronting the PS, saying that he could have approached the matter in a better way by calling Kibicho.

He said that the reports of the spat confirm fears of a split within Jubilee administration.

Dennis Itumbi claimed in a Facebook post that somebody had asked the commisioner and his juniors not to attend the DP's function.

"If the confrontation happened then it paints a picture of what we have been talking about of split within Jubilee. They have each others number and could have called each other to solve issues instead of doing in the public eye and in front of cameras and journalists... That paints a grim picture of the Jubilee regime. Is the centre still holding? It raises so many questions," Gitau said.

The reports of the confrontation will add to growing speculation about tensions within the governing Jubilee Party. DP Ruto visited Turkana County where he attended an interdenominational church service and inspected government projects.

PS Kibicho continues to be at the centre of political controversy with some accusing him of abusing his powers to dictate political events.
