Elgeyo Marakwet County Governor Alex Tolgos has come out to defend himself after allegations that he has ditched Deputy President William Ruto for Senator Gideon Moi’s KANU party emerged.
While speaking to the Standard on Thursday, Tolgos denied ever having been associated with the DP Ruto's ‘Tanga Tanga’ group and defended his alleged relationship with KANU party saying that the party is also part of Jubilee's administration.
“Some people are saying I have decamped from Tanga Tanga, but I have never been in that outfit before. KANU is in Jubilee government. So, why should these people (critics) panic?” Governor Tolgos asked.
Tolgos' declaration that he was not part of Ruto’s camp elicited sharp reactions as his move came shortly after former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant and businessman Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich alias Buzeki distanced himself from the political outfit.
Political observers have since termed the defection of the two politicians as a blow to William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Tolgos' relationship with Moi is also likely to worsen the ongoing supremacy battle between the two leaders.
The two leaders have in the past exchanged bitter words over the control of Rift Valley politics.
