An alarm has been raised over increased cases of members of the public attacking and injuring police officers while on duty.
Kenyenya Sub County in Kisii County police boss Isaac Thuranira argued that the latest incident where a Boda boda rider descended on a police officer with kicks and blows is a clear indication that the lives of security officers are in danger.

"On Monday night, a rider attacked a police officer who was responding to a fracas at a local bar in Kenyenya. The officer was forced to shoot the rider in the thigh in self-defence because the rider overpowered the officer," said Thuranira.
He has appealed to members of the public to stop seeing police officers as enemies.
The police boss assured that anyone caught assaulting a police officer will be nabbed to face the full force of the law.
"Police are not enemies to be assaulted. The public should see the security officers as their brothers and sisters who are working around the clock to ensure all Kenyans are protected irrespective of their tribe, religion," he added.
