Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has called for concerted efforts in the fight against corruption.
In a video doing rounds on social media, Keter noted that the government is broke hence the need for Kenyans to unite in the fight against graft.
The outspoken lawmaker argued that the country is currently in a poor economic state.
According to Keter, Kenya collects revenue summing up to Sh1.6 trillion, with Sh1 trillion being spent on debt repayment.
The MP further noted that the remaining Sh600 billion caters for recurrent expenditure and salaries of public servants.
"We haven't allocated Sh300 billion to counties, we haven't started development and are yet to pay pending bills. In short, what I am saying is that it is unfortunate our government is broke," said Keter.
"Let's us live in reality and that is the reason why we must all rise up and fight against corruption," he added.
The MP argued that the government will not be able to raise money for salaries and county governments in the next financial year unless it borrows the funds.
He further declared support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's fight against graft, adding that it is not aimed at targetting a particular community.
This comes days after the MP argued that the graft war was leaning on one side.
"We should not weaponise corruption but instead fight it will all the energy and information we have. Why is this fight against corruption leaning in one side? Is someone in control?" asked Keter.
