A University of Nairobi (UoN) lecturer was on Thursday arrested after she was found locked in her house in Nairobi’s South B estate with a decomposing body of her 13-year old son.
It has now merged that the lecturer, who has been identified as Annah Khahugani, did not take her son, Solomon Inyama, to the hospital due to her religious beliefs.
She also claimed that the son fell and died while in the house.
According to reports from Standard Media, Annah, who had locked herself up in the house with the body, does not believe in hospitals.
Police were forced to cut down the grill on her door to gain entrance to the house.
The caretaker of the apartments had alerted the police after he discovered a foul smell from Annah's room while he was going around collecting the rent.
Stephen Mwangi, the caretaker, added that the lecturer was extremely religious.
Police officers found her hiding in a cupboard with a bible and a notebook on the table; an indicator that she was indeed religious.
It is reported that the body might have been in the house for approximately five days.
An official report on the duration has however not yet been issued out.
The body was taken to Chiromo mortuary for postmortem.
Area police boss Kimani Mitugo confirmed the incident and added that investigations into the case had been launched.
The case had attracted a lot of reactions on social media.
