A section of travellers on Thursday caused chaos at some of the Modern Coast's booking offices while demanding to be refunded their fare.
This is after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended the company's license following an accident on Thursday at around 2:30 am that involved two buses owned by Modern Coast.
The accident occurred near Salama town along Mombasa-Nairobi highway, Makueni County
All the 88 vehicles owned by the company were prohibited from operating.
“The company’s access to the NTSA portal has been deactivated to limit any activities on their 88 vehicles, as the investigation continues,” NTSA Director-General George Njao stated as quoted by Citizen Digital.
7 people died from the accident while 62 sustained serious injuries.
Reports from Citizen Digital indicate that police officers were forced to intervene and disperse some of the rowdy travellers.
According to a traveler who spoke to KTN News, the company had not addressed the passengers, leaving them stranded.
"So we came back here. Why would you take the money knowing that you cannot travel? They just ran away. They haven't addressed us since morning at 9:00 am," one of the travellers said in a video shared on YouTube.
This is despite the fact that Modern Coast had confirmed that they would refund all the affected customers.
The accident attracted outrage from Kenyans who, for a better part of Thursday, expressed their reactions on social media.
