The extension of the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI)  task force's tenure should not be a ploy to confuse Kenyans of the real intentions of the report, but a cause towards welcoming honest thoughts from Kenyans.

Having announced the extension a few days ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have emphasized that the move is meant to collect more views from Kenyans so that any necessary reactions or changes can be ascertained.

However, the question that keeps begging for answers is how that will end the speculations that the report is meant to help selfish politicians secure political positions come 2022. Also, the team was given almost one year to do the same thing they want to repeat. How can Kenyans be convinced that this is not a waste of more resources?

It is prudent to opine that having examined the mood of the nation, this could be a plan to make the final report acceptable by a majority in a bid to evade sustained resistance from Kenyans who are exhausted of seeing the government offices taken up by obvious people. The notion, then, would be to develop a dual report to the primary objectives of the two heads.

The other reason is that perhaps the two principals might be truly enthusiastic to listen to the recommendations from Kenyans favourable to push the nation forward and that they were dissatisfied by what the BBI crew ultimately generated. Thus, they have tasked the team to go back and amass more authentic opinions considering distinct reforms initiatives that Kenyans wish.

The extension of the team's term needs to be citizen-centric. Uhuru and Raila being the engineers of the initiative need to convince Kenyans that the extension is necessary and will benefit Kenyans. They should ensure any additions to the report are from the public via viewpoint polls or focus group. Then,  a committee of ethical-political denomination able to realize the problems facing Kenyans across the nation should sit down and in a free and fair manner, tidy up the tangles in the report for it to meet amendments.
