Through his Director of Communications Jacob Elkanah who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, Sonko stated that a memo doing rounds on social media about the appointment was fake.

He said Kenyans should ignore it as matters arising from his office will always be communicated through official channels.

The memo dated December 9 was complete with the City Hall paraphernalia and stated that Simon Mbugua was Sonko's choice to stand as a Deputy Governor of Nairobi.

"To ensure that residents are not denied service and sound leadership, I hereby nominate Hon. Simon Mbugua as the Deputy Governor of Nairobi," read part the fake statement.

It also indicated that Sonko had given in in leading Nairobi and had stepped aside, a fact that he has denied.

Simon Mbugua who is an EALA Member of Parliament has also dismissed reports of his appointment as Nairobi's deputy county boss.

The governor was arrested on Friday in Voi and was arraigned at Milimani law courts on Monday to face graft charges of over Sh357 million misappropriated funds.

He has denied all the charges levelled against him

Sonko is being represented by several top lawyers led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr.
