Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has hit out at Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, accusing him of misusing his powers.
Speaking on Thursday after a section of leaders led by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko stormed the Machakos Police Station, Makau asked the county boss to respect business operators in the county.
The leaders had stormed the police station to demand the release of five employees who work at a hotel owned by former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile.
The workers were arrested after officials from the health department on Wednesday raided the hotel on grounds of lack of proper food hygiene.
According to a letter signed by Machakos County Public Health Officer Isaac Matheka, the food handled in the hotel risks being contaminated due to the situation and construction of the hotel.
The vocal MP asked Mutua to use his powers in a rightful manner, adding that the county boss should not frustrate and arrest people who question his administration.
“I want to ask Mutua why is it that when people talk about you, you go and close their business? I want to tell him that we must respect each other. Machakos does not belong to someone's mother, it belongs to us all (Sasa mbona Mutua wewe watu wakiongea juu yako unaenda kufunga mabiashara. Mimi nataka nimwambie tuheshimiane bwana. Hii Machakos sio ya mama ya mtu, ni yetu sote),” he said
