The National Police Service (NPS) has broken its silence on a video that appeared to show a junior police officer dipping his hands into the pocket of his boss during a scuffle when Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested.
In a tweet on Sunday, NPS said that what had been reported by some media outlets regarding the video was a misrepresentation of the facts as they were, terming them untrue.
"The video clip doing rounds on social media highlighting what appears to be an act of pickpocketing by a police officer is a misrepresentation of facts and untrue," the tweet read.
In another tweet, the National Police Service said that the officer who was thought to have been stolen from confirmed that nothing was stolen from him.
It went on to explain further that the officer who allegedly dipped his hands into his boss's pockets was a disciplined officer whose integrity is beyond reproach.
"The Officer in Charge of Traffic Voi has confirmed that he was not pick pocketed. Equally, the police command in Voi has confirmed that the officer in question is disciplined and of high integrity," NPS said.
The video triggered debate on social media platforms adding another point of discussion to the dramatic arrest of the embattled Nairobi governor.
