The leaders argue that senators are supposed to oversight counties, citing conflict of interest as the reason why the two legislators should vacate their seats.

"In a working democracy, both Murkomen and Mutula should have by now lost their positions as senators," Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot said on Tuesday.

On his part, former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando Wa Kabando asked Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, who has also faulted the two senators, to sponsor a motion against the duo.

"What Sakaja should be saying now is when he’s sponsoring a motion of no-confidence in the said leaders in his party. That’ll be leadership advanced," Kabando said.

In an exclusive interview on Kiss FM on Tuesday morning, Sakaja blasted Murkomen and Mutula and accused them of siding with the corrupt, instead of defending the country as members of the Senate.

"It is a complete conflict of interest. It is your right to have the lawyer of your choice and best legal advice but you cannot be a senator who is supposed to defend your county and then defend a case on corruption. The Senate is mandated to protect county funds from corrupt individuals, not the other way round," the Nairobi Senator said as quoted by the Star.

However, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei say there is no law which criminalises legislators from running law firms.
