In a recent article, I opined here that it had abruptly come to the end of the road for veteran Kikuyu radio broadcaster PM Squared and faded comedian Man Solo Papa alias Machang'i.
This is after the two were thrown into a state of career oblivion following the poaching of Man Simo and Katta from Inooro FM earlier this month to take over Kameme FM's drive show (Humuka) which before Monday, June 24 was steered by PM Squared and Machang'i.
As such, the opinion piece had sought to figure out what would be the next stop for the two presenters whom for lack of a better word, had been rendered redundant by the entry of Man Simo & Katta on Kameme FM airwaves.
In the article, I had noted that PM Squared had a choice to hang her boots on radio and go on retirement or stay around and be reassigned to reading the 8 pm casual and funeral announcements, an area she has no equal on entire Kikuyu radio. Truth be told, nobody beats 'WaBete Mum' in this area.
While it is still very early to deduce anything, it seems like PM Squared may have settled for the latter option as she can now be heard reading the announcements on Kameme FM while Machangi's fate whose goose seems cooked and served, remains unknown.
From this development, we might conclude that Kameme FM is not in a rush to have PM Squared go as she remains a valuable asset to the station when it comes to reading death & funeral announcements.
These announcements are still a source of sizeable revenue for Kikuyu radio market leaders Kameme FM and Inooro FM.
For this reason, Kameme FM may retain PM Squared, perhaps, as long as she wants, to steer this agenda that is part and parcel of its commercial programming.
This could only be because of PM Squared's prowess, vast experience and unrivalled on-air ability to infuse deep emotional feelings into these announcements.
PM Squared while presenting these announcements not only drives the message home, but also gives the families of the departed ones that utmost serene feeling which reminds them that despite the big loss, there is hope in eternity. Amazingly, this is not in words, but all in her voice!
