On Sunday night during an Interview on K24 punchline, Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua gave his two cents on Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) saying that the report which was initiated by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon Raila Odinga after the 2018 handshake is meant to build a new peaceful and united nation and to help in doing away with electoral violence as witnessed in the past years.
Mutua said that on the BBI report he would recommend for equitable sharing of power through an expanded executive that will provide a chance to all regions to feel represented at the top status.
"On the BBI, I propose that power is shared. An expanded executive that will have different regions represented. A situation where all Kenyans feel represented at the top level," he said.
Adding to his viewpoints, he said that the presidential powers need to be halved and shared to eradicate political tribalism through the provision of positions like President, Deputy President, Prime Minister and two Deputy Prime Ministers.
"We need to divide and get the powers of the president shared. People are focused on tribes because of the one presidential post that exists. We need a president, a DP, a PM and two deputy PMs," he added
Mutua also said that he would support the amendments of the report to undergo via a referendum instead of a parliamentary way so that Kenyans can be part.
"If we want to adopt the BBI issues, we will need to go for a referendum. The power lies with the people and we cannot be sure that parliament will not be compromised if they decide to go the parliamentary system way," he concluded.
