ODM leader Raila Odinga has dismissed claims that he intended to hurt the Kamba community following his remarks on Saturday.
Mr Odinga who hosted Kamba community to drum up support for Imran Okoth ahead of Kibra polls, said people from the region are loyal.
"Wakamba ni waaminifu kama akina mama. Wakisema wanakupatia wanakupatia (Kambas are loyal and are like women. When they say they will give you, they will keep their word)" the ODM boss stated amidst laughs from the crowd.
But the remarks did not go well with a section of the Kamba leaders questioning the intent. Former MP Wavinya Ndeti read malice in the statement.
"Baba I'm very disappointed with your statement. Kambas are patient and loyal but we will not be taken for granted under any circumstance. We supported you for 10 years and you should respect my community," she tweeted on Sunday.
However, Raila Odinga's private secretary Silas Jakakimba downplayed the alleged slur, arguing that the ODM boss did not mean to hurt anyone.
According to Jakakimba, Mr Odinga simply meant that the Akamba people are loyal and will always commit to their promises.
"Big Sister, unless you want to read into this a twisted version, Baba @RailaOdinga has firmly told the whole world that in Kenya, KAMBAS are special because it is a community that KEEPS ITS WORD. Separately and btw, if a woman gives a man a firm Word, be sure she will keep it," he said.
Mr Odinga, who closely worked with Kalonzo Musyoka in the last two elections, is courting Kamba governors Kivutha Kibwana, Charity Ngilu and Alfred Mutua ahead of a possible alliance.
