Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga was after all prevailed upon to drop a meeting with Central Management Committee scheduled on Thursday over Kibra by-election.

A local publication on Wednesday claimed that the meeting had been scheduled to prevail upon the candidate to pick one of them instead of going for a nomination.

But ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna dismissed the reports, arguing that the party had made a decision to have all the candidates facing one another.

"Fake news by @TheStarKenya. There is no such meeting tomorrow or at all. There is no party effort for "consensus". The NEB is on course in its preparations for the nominations Saturday. Watu wakutane kwa debe. Very desperate propaganda," he said.

ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire on Wednesday said the party is ready for nominations, adding that should the said consensus flop, candidates should be ready for universal suffrage.

"Yes, you doubting? Fine, but they must be prepared for reality in case of misunderstanding, all options on the table," said Bosire, who sits in the committee in reference to nominations.

But an insider at Orange House who spoke in confidence says Mr Odinga was prevailed upon by senior party members to drop the consensus approach.

"He had actually called for a meeting on Thursday but senior party members were of the opinion that the candidates face one another. They also told him that the consensus push would potray him as a leader without stand," he said, adding that Raila was forced to drop the meeting.

Instead, Mr Odinga urgently called for a meeting with the candidates on Wednesday at Orange House, where he assured them that there well be a free and fair nomination on Saturday.

"All of you are like my sons. None of you have been given ticket. You will face one another on Saturday in free and fair nomination. Thereafter, you embrace one another," he said.

The winner will face McDonald Mariga of Jubilee, Eliud Owalo of ANC and Ramadhan Khamisi of Ford Kenya. Kibra by-election will be held on November 7th.
