Just days after Catholic Bishops banned huge cash donations from politicians, a Kisii clergy has strongly opposed the decision terming it as selfish and hypocritical.
Speaking to the media at his office on Tuesday, Pastor Peter Morwabe of Kisii Gospel Embassy Church claimed the Catholic and Adventist churches are the ones who have siphoned money from top leaders in the name of building the church.
"These Bishops who are suspending the money given by politicians are the same people who have richly harvested from them in the name of building God's sanctuary. To be specific more so catholic churches have siphoned a lot and if they have eaten enough. They should leave alone politicians willing to support other churches," said Pastor Morwabe.
"In the bible, churches were not built by Christians alone. In fact, temples were built by Kings who were not even churchgoers. Nehemiah was supported by the King to erect the walls of Jerusalem. What are they telling us now?" he added.
The pastor challenged the Catholic Bishops to return all the money contributed by politicians to their churches, just as Zacheus did in the bible, if at all they believe its corrupt cash.
"Why are they keeping the cash contributed to them if it is contaminated. If they are serious in their sentiments, they should start by returning all the cash they have been receiving in fundraisers before they lecture us," said Morwabe.
The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) last week announced a ban on huge cash donations from politicians and said they would instead embrace cashless donations.
