This is after it was realized that Njeri was not actively involved in the company's activities to which she is listed as a director.

“We find that she was a sleeping director and not active in the affairs of the company. Her explanation is reasonable,” the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji stated on Saturday as quoted by the Standard Digital.

Last month, the EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak had directed that Governor Waititu's family including his wife and daughter be arrested and charged with embezzlement of public funds.

“On Governor Waititu and members of his family, preliminary investigations show contractors paid monies to senior county officials, their companies or relatives through proxies,”  Mbarak had stated as quoted by the Standard.

With the governor's daughter out of the case, the only family member being pursued currently is his wife Susan Ndung'u.

EACC had accused the governor of receiving money through his accounts and other accounts which are associated with his wife and daughter.

Governor Waititu surrendered himself at the EACC offices in Nairobi on Sunday where he was arrested.

He is expected to be presented in court on Monday.
