The Labour Court on Monday suspended Education CS George Magoha's revocation of Prof Stephen Kiama Gitahi's appointment as University of Nairobi (UoN) Vice-Chancellor (VC), Daily Nation reports.
Magoha had said that he opted to revoke the appointment of Prof Kiama because the university council did not consult him over the same.
Lady Justice Maureen Onyango of the Employment and Labour Relations Court has also ordered Magoha’s new appointee, Prof Isaac Mbeche's not to assume the position until the matter is heard and determined.
Prof Kiama had filed a case through lawyer Fred Ngatia protesting the revocation.
The case is set to be heard on February 5.
On Sunday, Prof Kiama warned different stakeholders against dealing with a second party, adding that he was in charge of the management of the institution.
"This is to inform all stakeholders and collaborators that any person or institution entering into a contract with any other person other than the legally appointed Vice Chancellor purporting to represent the university does so at their own peril ..." he said, in a statement quoted by the Star.
Magoha had written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the process of the appointment of the VC.
The tussle escalated after the students' leaders issued a statement backing Mbeche.
They said that they had reached the decision following concerns of corruption from the CS.
