A 40-year-old man from Kirinyaga county who had tried to commit suicide at home by chopping off his hand, on Thursday hanged himself in a hospital toilet moments after he was admitted.
Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga Central OCPD Doreen Oduor told Citizen TV that the victim, Solomon Murage Kaburi, had attempted to kill himself at his home by chopping off his left hand. He was later dashed to Kerugoya Referral Hospital where he hanged himself.
The Kirinyaga OCPD also explained that the man had also made an effort to unfasten his hand after doctors had reattached it.
One of the medical officers who attended to the victim revealed that the victim was responding well to the medication before he hanged himself in the toilet using a medical intravenous giving set.
The reason why the deceased committed suicide is not known but his elder sister revealed that he looked disturbed before chopping off his hand.
His body was taken to the Kerugoya Referral Hospital morgue.
