Looking back at 2019, Northern Wanderers looked like favourites to challenge for the National Super League (NSL) this season given the money put in to buy a spot in the country's second-tier football league.
Club patron National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale made a big statement on buying a spot from Eldoret youth FC and renamed the club to Northern Wanderers in a move to nurture footballing talents from the Northeastern region.
There was a great level of expectation for the Garissa based team coming into the season for the once new expensively-assembled squad.
However, it has been a different story for the wanderers throughout the season after being suspended by the FKF over ownership row, on top of having lost 10 games in a row and zero points.
Entering the season, the wanderers opened their NSL campaign with an 8-0 loss to Nairobi Stima and after 10 games and 35 goals conceded, they were then favorites to be relegated.
Despite being one of the favourite teams in the division, the wanderer’s almost completely abandoned their mission to nurture talent more so they looked a team lacking direction and organization.
A year of great expectations, which had potential to be a success ultimately turned out to be worse.
It's yet to be seen as to when the FKF will overturn their decision.
