Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa has put on notice those selling illegal alcohol in informal settlements in the county.
In an exclusive interview on Friday, he said areas badly affected by the sale of illegal alcohol include; Munyaka, Langas, Kamukunji, Jua Kali, and Huruma among others.
“I want to give a stern warning to individuals selling illegal alcohol that their days are numbered and that they should either change their business or face the full force of the law. Our aim is to stop this nonsense once and for all,” he said.
Jaldesa said the government will increase raids in the affected areas to ensure the sale of illegal liquor is totally eradicated.
“We will conduct more raids through the use chiefs, village elders, Nyumba Kumi and police officers to ensure we reduce the effects of alcohol which has destroyed marriages and the life of young youths,” Jaldesa said.
According to Jaldesa, youths are the most affected by the vice.
He divulged that since the government had already banned the use and sale of illegal liquor, he will do all in his power to ensure the business is a thing of the past in the county.
Jaldesa issued the warning after Hivisasa highlighted the increased sale and consumption of illegal liquor in Munyaka area.
In Munyaka, alcohol has caused negative impacts in families, and led to increased insecurity in the area.
