The Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) has not compensated the Likoni ferry tragedy victims' family with Sh200,000 as it had been reported.
The money that KFS gave out was just a donation for the family to help in gathering for burial arrangements.
On September 29, Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda died after their car slid from MV Harambee ferry that was moving from Likoni mainland towards Mombasa Island and plunged into the Indian Ocean.
It had earlier raised mixed reactions when it emerged that KFS has compensated the family.
KFS Managing Director Bakari Gowa said the money was not compensation before he noted that compensating the family will not be an easy battle.
He advised the family to seek legal guidance before taking any action about compensation.
"The issue of compensation will not be easy. The family will have to hire a lawyer to go to court," said Gowa.
The victims' family has vowed to sue the KFS for negligence that resulted in the death of their loved ones.
Mariam and her Amanda's bodies arrived in Makueni on Saturday for burial.
Postmortem examination done on Wednesday confirmed the two drowned and died from suffocation.
