Mathare Member of Parliament Anthony Oluoch has expressed his beliefs and that of a number of his colleagues that Deputy President William Ruto is behind the Punguza Mizigo bill.
The bill being fronted by Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot seeks constitutional amendments to among others, introduce a nonrenewable seven-year presidential term.
A number of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party members have accused Aukot of being a project of the DP, claiming that he could be the force behind his bill.
Speaking on Tuesday, the ODM MP based their argument on the support the bid enjoys from the likes of Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, who is a close ally of the DP.
"Inawezekana (its possible) its sponsor ni (is) Ruto, it's very possible," Oluoch said on Radio Maisha, Monday morning.
"Ilipokuja watu wake; Murkomen mwenyewe alisema lazima ipitishwe (when it came his (Ruto) people like Murkomen said it must pass)," he added.
According to Oluoch, the fact that Ruto is opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) automatically lands him on the side of Punguza Mizigo, due to fears that the BBI will dim his 2022 presidential ambitions.
However, speaking on K24's Punchline on Sunday night, Aukot rubbished claims that he is Ruto's project, adding that he is being funded by members of the public and not the DP.
