Chief Justice David Maraga was conspicuously absent from Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Thursday.
Citizen Digital reports that the seat which had been set aside for Maraga who is the President of The Supreme Court remained unoccupied.
There was no representative that was sent to step in for the Chief Justice as the registrar in the Judiciary who would have represented the CJ was also absent.
Other judges of the supreme court staged a similar show as they failed to attend the National event.
This comes after The Chief Justice raised concern over his relationship with the executive arm of the government.
According to the Chief Justice, he was not being treated with the respect that he deserves.
He, in addition, indicated that he may not attend certain National functions.
“Unless I am treated with dignity due to my office, I will choose which of State functions to attend,” Maraga stated a few months ago as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Apparently, the absence of the Chief Justice at the function was unexpected to the extent that Deputy President William Ruto mentioned him as a present member.
Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was similarly absent from the event contrary to the expectations of many.
Important to note is that the Judiciary was the only arm of government that was not represented at the function.
