Six youths on Thursday surrendered themselves to police over the fear of being targeted by the security officers and the public after being linked to the dreaded Wakali Kwanza gang.
The youths presented themselves to different police stations after their photos went viral on social media, linking them to the Wakali Kwanza, Wakali Wao and Wajukuu Wa Bibi criminal gangs that have wreaked havoc in the Coast region, especially in Kisauni Constituency.
However, the six denied being members of the criminal gangs.
Kisauni Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Julius Kiragu on Friday said the six presented themselves to Kadzandani, Kiembeni and Urban Police stations, adding that they were being questioned.
“They are now being grilled by our Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers,” said Kiragu as quoted by Capital FM.
Two of the six suspects surrendered to Kiembeni Police Station, two at Kadzandani Police Post, while the other two presented themselves to Urban Police Station.
So far, police have arrested 11 suspects and gunned down one following the Monday night attack in Bamburi.
The slain suspect who was identified as 'Boyka' was linked to the Wakali Kwanza gang.
Boyka was cornered at Mtopanga area on Wednesday night at around 8pm. His accomplices, however, managed to escape and police are still searching for them.
