For about a week now, Egerton University has been trending on Twitter, not for a good reason though but for a negative one.
Apparently, the Nakuru-based university decided to impose an Sh16,862 damages fee for every student to cover for damages cost during students' unrest.
A section of Twiter users, however, feel the amount set is too high.
This has led to the hashtag #egertonheist with several prominent bloggers also joining the bandwagon.
Under the hashtag, there have also been several other allegations that the university owes the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) taxes that run to millions hence the hefty fine is in a bid to raise cash to fulfil the tax obligations, claims that have however not been substantiated.
Twitter users now want Egerton University management investigated over the matter.
