Police in Mombasa County have established the hideouts for newly-formed 86 battalion gang.
On Sunday morning, the machete-wielding gang attacked residents and injured at least 10 of them.
The gang, believed to be made up of about 10 to 12 young boys aged between 12 and 18, randomly attacked residents at Mgongeni, Frère town, Khadija and Bakarani areas.
Police established key hideouts used by the gang members after visiting Mwandoni area. They said some houses in the area had been marked with harsh tag #86.
Nyali Deputy County Commissioner Silus Gatobu said the gang members will soon be brought to book citing that landlords of the said houses will be interrogated.
“We have established a new gang calling itself 86 battalion is the one attacking people here in Mwandoni and Bakarani area, we have seen their hideouts and we are soon going to arrest owners of the houses for interrogation,” said Gitobu.
For years, most notorious machete-wielding gangs in Mombasa County, specifically in Kisauni and Likoni, have been Wakali Wao and Wakali Kwanza.
However, their frequent attacks have reduced in recent months after police intensified their security in the region, gunning down some of them.
