The race to succeed Ken Okoth in Kibra could attract high octane politics, with Orange Democratic Movement party sending early warning signals.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite huge divisions within his Jubilee party, on Wednesday endorsed retired footballer McDonald Mariga for the seat.
NASA affiliates ANC and Ford Kenya have also fielded Eliud Owalo and Eng Ramadhan Khamisi respectively, a move that makes the race exciting.
A day after promising fireworks, Mombasa Governor Ali Joho stormed on Friday in Kibra, with his focus shifting to Muslim and Nubian votes.
"DPL @HassanAliJoho today joined Muslim faithful for the Friday prayer at Makina Mosque in Kibra. He was accompanied by Director of Campaigns @JunetMohamed and party candidate @ImranOkoth among other party officials," ODM tweeted.
In the company of director of elections Junet Mohamed and party flag bearer Imran Okoth, Mr Joho asked locals to ensure ODM retains.
Earlier on Wednesday, Joho maintained that Mr Okoth will eventually be declared the winner, adding that he will personally pitch tent in Kibra.
“Kibra elections will be peaceful and Imran Okoth of ODM will finally be declared new MP. We have an elaborate plan as a party," he said.
The Mombasa governor added: "I have campaigned in by-elections and we have experience. I will pitch tent in Kibra. There is nothing wrong with the president endorsing a member of his party."
Analysts claim that Dr William Ruto is keen to use Mariga to send a warning signal to ODM in Nairobi politics. Historically, Mr Raila Odinga of ODM has controlled city politics.
ODM appointed Makadara MP George Aladwa, a seasoned city politician as campaign leader. The Orange party is keen to retain the seat to maintain her numerical strength in Parliament.
