Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday skipped the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally in Mombasa.
The second in command had said that he was going to attend the BBI rallies during an interview with NTV.
He, however, did not show up when leaders arrived at the Mama Ngina Waterfront for the meeting.
Ruto had faulted ODM leader Raila Odinga’s allies for using the forums to insult him.
Instead, the second in command attended an interdenominational church service at St. Benedict Kapsigilai Secondary School, Cherangany Constituency, Trans Nzoia County.
During the meeting, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said that he is fully behind the BBI report. He also said that Kenya must go for a referendum.
"Since Uhuru, Moses Kuria and Waiguru who are our brothers from the other region have now accepted the formation of Prime Minister position, there is nothing to hinder Kenya from having a prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and other leaders. It's a must we go to a referendum so that Kenyans can give themselves leaders that can join them together," he said.
The leaders who attended the meeting include Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, governors, MPs, Senators and Ward Representatives.
The leaders called for national unity and tolerance as the BBI report popularisation gains momentum in the country. Leaders have predicted a referendum for the implementation of the report.
