The meeting with the locals was to discuss the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) report.

Nation reports that the money was to cater for transport and printing of T-Shirts on Sunday before the scheduled date of the voyage which was planned for Monday morning.

The locals however later realized that they had been fooled after they spent almost six hours awaiting for unavailable man by identified as Peter Mwangi.

T-shirts too had not been submitted and no bus had come to pick them.

According to the locals, Mwangi had promised them that the meeting was meant to discuss on the recently released BBI report and to help them secure first positions as William Ruto's campaigners in his 2022 presidential overture.

They were to be offered a subsidy amounting to Sh10,000 each after the meeting,

“It was such a nice deal and we never thought it would turn out to be a fraud. We were to discuss how to support the DP in 2022 campaigns,” said Mr Muthamia, one of the locals.

Among other affected were Joyce Mwari, a businesswoman in Isiolo who said that Mwangi had been giving fake promises adding that they had been told that 4 school buses were coming to pick them and they were to be fueled on Monday morning.

“We have been waiting there for more than five hours hoping that the man would turn up but seems it is a scam,” Mwari explained.

They recorded a complaint at Isiolo police station asking the police officers to help them recover their money amounting to Sh483,000 which they had been defrauded.

Reached for a comment, defended himself alleging that he had been cheated by a welfare group called “Power”.
