In January 2019, Hivisasa highlighted a case of a needy bright student who was unable to join high school after performing exemplary in her KCPE. The student, Hyreen Matara, who scored 413 marks was admitted at Moi Girls' High School in Eldoret, but lack of funds meant that she could not join the institution.

Her story was covered by Edson Meroka, a Hivisasa writer based in Nyamira. The writer received a tip from an informant regarding the situation. He visited the student's home, where she interviewed her parents. The parents appealed to well-wishers to assist the girl realize her dream of becoming a doctor.

Before publishing the story, the student had unsuccessfully applied for consideration by leading scholarship programmes in the country. Most programmes maintained that she failed to meet the threshold for getting sponsorship.

After publishing the story, the editor in charge, Abuga Makori shared it on various WhatsApp groups with Nyamira opinion makers. Based on the contents of the story, the leaders resolved to create a WhatsApp group to coordinate a funds drive for the student. 

The leaders worked closely with the editor and the writer to get more details about the student and her condition. 

Through the WhatsApp group, a coordinator was appointed in ensuring that all the funds were accounted for. In five days, the group members managed to raise Sh80, 000 towards the students' school fees. Among the notable leaders who took part in the initiative was Jerusha Momanyi.

By press time, the form student had been enrolled on the  Kitutu Masaba constituency bursary funds until she clears her secondary school education.
