The Speaker of the Senate Ken Lusaka on Monday confirmed that he had received an impeachment motion form the Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu.
The motion to impeach Governor Waititu was passed by 63 MCAs who voted in favour of the motion while only one MCA voted against the motion.
"I want to confirm that I have received Governor Waititu's impeachment motion which was brought to my office at around five today," Lusaka stated.
All eyes will now be switched to the Leader of Majority in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen and the Leader of Minority in the Senate James Orengo who will determine the next step.
"Standing order number 30 demands that for us to have a special sitting, the leader of majority or minority or both of them, they see the matter as urgent in terms of addressing the issues that the MCAs and people of Kiambu have raised, then they will request for a special sitting. For me as the speaker, I would wait for them to come up with what is appropriate in the circumstances and I'll have no problem in reconvening or asking the house to come back for a special sitting," Lusaka stated.
Waititu through his lawyers had also written to the Senate Speaker claiming that the impeachment motion against him was irregular and unprocedural.
