Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has hit out at the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matingi for abandoning his trip to West Pokot citing bad Weather.
On Monday, Matiang’i, his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa and Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai who were on their way to West Pokot in a helicopter were forced to land in Eldoret due to what they said bad weather.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Saturday after flagging off foodstuff to help landslide victims in West Pokot, Mandago said Matiang'i's team's decision to cancel his trip and return to Nairobi show clearly that they are not ready to help the victims.
“I want to tell the CS of Interior to be a be serious with human life. If the helicopter he was in was forced to land in Eldoret, he could have looked for the alternative vehicle and use it since it's only 100 kilometres from Eldoret town,” he said.
“How can they cancel their trip and go back to Nairobi happily yet the life of people are in danger? These shows they don’t value common mwananchi," added the county boss.
Mandago further called for the decentralization of the National Disaster Command Centers noting that in case of disasters, the situation can be arrested on time preventing the loss of lives and property as it has been witnessed in West Pokot.
